Hungerford Happenings - July 2010

Dear Family and Friends,

Summer Camp. Summer is finally here! It seamed as if we had been preparing for summer camp forever. Now that it is finally here, the time is quickly passing by. We are already in our third week of camp.

The morning of our first day of camp, a couple of hours before our first ranchers arrived; I was sitting in chapel looking at our summer staff. I was impressed at how many of them were kids who had first come as ranchers, and then through the years worked their way up through teen volunteers and in training positions, and where now returning as either summer staff, or apprentices. Even our speaker for that morning, and for the Senior Chapels for the upcoming week, was a rancher 20 yrs ago and became a counselor for many years and is now working at a Christian University. It was exciting to see how these kid’s and adult’s lives had been changed over the years, and now they were returning to help other kids experience that change as well. In I Thessalonians 2:8, Paul speaks of “Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.” To me, this is Christian camping in a nut shell.

Please pray for our staff, that they would be willing to be a living sacrifice to be used of God mightily in the lives of the ranchers this summer. Pray also for the kids that will attend MMR, that their hearts will be open to God’s working in their lives.

C.A.M.P. -Our students this summer are now applying all the lessons they have learned over the past year. They are being forced to change head knowledge into practical knowledge as they counsel, lead, and direct the summer staff, and ranchers. Graduation is only 5 ½ weeks away. Please pray for the Apprentices as they seek God’s direction for the next step in their lives. We will really miss them, but are excited to see what God has next for them.

Family -Once again Michelle is counseling at camp this summer. It’s hard work, but the fruit is well worth the effort. Tim is the videographer and sound man again at camp. Kids know him as the “video guy”. Matthew joined Chris this year in the trail ride barn. They help teach classes and give the kids trail rides. Matthew had the privilege of leading a young girl to Christ while on a trail ride. Shawn and Kyle are helping mom once again in the store. Although they are both very good with money, they are looking forward to when they too will be old enough to work in the barns. Sandy is overseeing Vaulting and the store. Chip is holding down the fort in the office, making sure everything is running smoothly.

Chris -Again we want to thank you all for your prayers for Chris this past spring. He is doing really well. He is scheduled to get this prosthetic eye on August 18, in Pittsburgh. It’s a one day process. We arrive at the Doctor’s office at 9am, and leave with an eye by 5pm.

Sincerely
Chip, Sandy, & Family
