Living on the Edge for the Opportunity to Serve You Better!
The new building (still waiting for its official name) took us down to the wire in both time and money, but the central bathroom portion of the building was ready to use for the first day of camp! We praise God for his provision. There were scores of volunteers, staff, and several paid contractors that came together in the closing weeks to make it happen. For their hard work and dedication to the cause we are very thankful. We worked into the late evening many days and actually finished at 3:00 am on the day camp opened! It was a lot of sacrifice, but very rewarding. Parents and kids were thrilled to see the quality improvement over the old bathroom – no more gang showers!
On the financial side, we have pushed the limits, spending pretty much everything we could find to get the bathrooms usable. The building is weather-tight, but the six bunkrooms
and the activity/ meeting room are not finished. We are now taking a break from construction and spending time to focus on raising the money needed to complete the project. $46,000 has been raised toward the estimated total cost of $500,000. We are looking for several large donors and many small donors to help us get to the next phase of construction. We are excited for the potential this completed building will add to the ministry.
It is our prayer that the Lord provides for the completion of the bunkrooms by next summer. We have seen a tremendous growth in summer camp and we will need the room for next year. Two years ago our summer camp attendance was 850. Last year’s attendance was almost 1,000, and this year it should be over 1,100! The bunkhouse portion of this new building will let us house over 300 more kids throughout the summer.
